<zoology> A South American crocodilian (Jacare sclerops) resembling the alligator in size and habits. The eye orbits are connected together, and surrounded by prominent bony ridges.
Synonym: spectacled alligator, and spectacled cayman.
Alternative forms: jacare.
The name is also applied to allied species.
